CIRPA's Perceived Residential Environment Quality Indicators (PREQIs) Marino Bonaiuto Quality of Life: one in 5 (City Prosperity Index) State of the World¡¯s Cities 2012/2013 Prosperity of Cities Enhances the use of public spaces in order to increase community cohesion, civic identity, and guarantees the safety and security of lives and property. This index is a combination of three sub-indices: education, health sub-index and public space (UN-Habitat, 2012) http://www.unhabitat.org/pmss/listItemDetails.aspx?publicationID=3387 The social-psychologial experience of Place (e.g., Canter, 1977; Russel & Ward, 1982; Bonnes & Secchiaroli, 1995; Bonnes & Bonaiuto, 1996) Perception and evaluation of urban places ¡¯70s- UNESCO-MAB Programme of research(Bonaiuto, Bonnes, 2002; Bonnes, Carrus, Bonaiuto, Fornara, Passafaro, 2004) - Knowledge and concepts - Methodology and tools - Interdisciplinarity and applications It further developed with several different other programmes focusing on three main constructs (Bonaiuto, 2004): 1.a. Residential Satisfaction (RS) 1.b. Place Attachment (PA) 2.Perceived Environmental Quality (PEQ) Perceived Residential Environment Quality Indicators (PREQIs) PREQIs applications: some examples - To monitor across places - To monitor across time (POE) - To understand relations among levels - To test convergence or divergence with other indexes, and relations with activities - To check cultures/languages (in progress) - To simplify for technological uses Summary: Evidence Based Design (EBD) - Valid and reliable indicators for PREQ (within QOL) - Need to measure them since they can converge or diverge with other indexes, and relate to activities - Useful to monitor across places - Useful to monitor across time (POE) - Useful to establish priorities for decision-making - Stable across cultures/languages (in progress) - Possible simplification for technological uses - Training and consultancy |
